Belgian whetstones, a centuries-old tradition!
The extraction and production of whetstones in the Belgian Ardennes dates back to the 17th century. The sedimentary rock formed over 480 million years is a unique geological deposit. Belgian whetstones are a natural product and the extraction and production are carried out in a traditional way. This makes each whetstone an unique item! Belgian whetstones owe their worldwide reputation to their unique characteristic of sharpening very quickly and extremely finely. This is due to the polishing effect of the many tiny garnets released during whetting. Their hardness means that these garnets can hone any type of steel, including stainless steel and High Speed Steel.
